The Importance of Transmission Liquid Service

Car routine maintenance involves lots of different thing and transmission service is only one of them. It works similar to engine oil replacement, where there are several things that the mechanic will do and that include removing the pan and clean it out, cleaning the filter (replacing it when its necessary), installing a new pan gasket on the pan, pumping out the old fluid and replace it with new transmission liquid and in some cases it need to add an additive package.

Why do people need to do it regularly? Transmission liquid act as a lubricant for all the moving parts inside the transmission and it also act as a coolant in an automatic transmission. Over time, the transmission fluid will degrade or break down and it also can cause fluid contamination. The liquid that has degraded will not lubricate the transmission as well as clean oil and it could lead to shorter transmission lifetime.

How often do people need to do this? It will be vary depend on the transmission type and the car manufactures recommendation. For car with manual transmission, most manufactures recommended that the fluid must be changed every 30,000 to 60,000 miles while for car with automatic transmission is vary from  100,000 miles to 300,000 miles and some manufactures said that their car don’t need new fluid forever. It will be best to consult to the maintenance schedule in the owner’s manual. But, for those who do a lot of driving under high stress condition, then they need to change the oil more frequently.

It will be best to leave this job to the professional transmission service in San Antonio. Professional mechanic will know exactly what to do and do it the right way. A good transmission service will help the car owner to keep their transmission run smoothly and safely during the journey.
